Cosplay report
Mar. 29th, 2007 01:33 pmBeen a little while after the con, had time to reflect on various costumes now.
Hikaru and Kauru - Fairly simple costumes, in that most of it I didn't make myself. (I very nearly forgot to pack the trousers, which would have meant Kauru wandering around in a skirt!) The jackets were the first thing I have made where I lined it properly, and that the bit I'm most proud of, unfortunately you can't see any of it! The transfers worked okay, I think. Embroidered logos would have been better, but given that I made 4 out of the 5 jackets, I don't think I would have time if I had started last year :) It would have been good to have the whole group there, but I would have been satisfied with just having the 5 of us. Wigs were not right, but tehy have really awkward hair. Will have to try a hair spray dye job on them next time.
Fran - Well, she stayed on slightly better this time, but not great. I love the costume and I've put so much effort into it, I'm going to have a third attempt at getting it wearable! The bodice is much better and I think I have the right amount of clevage going on. (I don't feel like this one is going to slip down like the other). I just need a way of getting the leg pieces to stay in place. I think I have an idea. I'm constantly amazed at the respect I get from women wearing this costume, it's great.
Chidori - I was very tempted to redo the top about a week before the con when I was going though final fittings. It's not lined properly, and it doesn't fit me too well. However I think it looked good enough and in the Minami masquade, there are always going to be much better costmes than mine. i'm just happy if the skit goes off well. Which I think it did this year. Only one line was forgotten, and everything flowed. I don't think any of the jokes were completely lost, thogh of course some were in-jokes.
Bonta - I was pleased with the way that he came out. I've never done anything like this, so I wasn't expecting him to look as good as some people could have done it. However, looking at other cosplay images I found on the net, I think he compares favourably. The biggest problem was getting the fur to lie properly on the head, as there are some really obious seams. However I think the size and shape came out well. Will need to consider visibilty, as poor Joe could see nothing out of that! The feet were I think my favourite piece, they came out perfectly and were lovely to wear around.
Zidane - was the costume I was most happy with. The biggest problem on this was I ran out of t-shirt fabric and so the top was a little short. The tail didn't quite hang right, but was close enough. The gloves / cuffs I think worked very well. The wig, while not quite spiky enough, was close enough. I'll have to try some hair gel or similar on it next time.
