Being creative
Jan. 22nd, 2007 10:04 pmSatruday morning headed into Bristol to go shopping for fabric. I said I'd help a fellow cosplayer work out how much fabric he needed for his costume. Ended up leading the expedition and making most of the decisions. I was totally unsurprised at how much effort and though this person had put into their costume. Still, was all good as I got to spend hours going through fabric shops. I can spend days shopping for raw materials in a happy daze. Screw shoe-shops, I'll take fabric shopping any day of the week. If anyone wants to treat me, the ask me to help with costume shopping - whether it's larp kit or cosplay, I'll be very happy to help :)
Found fuzzily-wuzzily fur in fabric land, both Alsation and Husky variety. Was tempted to buy enough to make a fake fuzzily-wuzzily rug for Alex, but wasn't sure how well that would go down :)
Spent rest weekend armed with a glue gun and gaffa tape, slowly constructing my fist full head mask. It's not going too badly, but I'm struggling a little to get the bottom of it the right shape. May have to take a trip to homebase for raw materials. Pipe-lagging for all!
The weekend was supposed to be a wessex anime cosplay session, as three of us have to make very similar things. I took enough materials for myself, plus some random extras that I had lying around. Another guy brought some camping mat, though considerably less than he though he had. And the third guy brought nothing. Nadda. Zip. Just what he thought he was going to be doing, don't know. I strongly suspect we're going to have 2, rather than 3 charecters of this sort for the skit. Still, doesn't bother me too much.
We also covered Ipala in gaffa tape. There is a good reason for this, but I think he might have forgotten it was such a good idea while we were cutting him out of it. We only drew blood once, so it wasn't too bad. And now there is a full body cast of James in his spare room, in case we lose the orginal :P
Zidane's costume is starting to come together nicely, though I cannot get any bigger across any part of my body before March. I'm certain there was more material in Fran's costume. It's not skimpy, but it is very very tight :)
Writing goes less well. Current scene just isn't coming out right, and I've put enough holes in so far that I don't want to leave more bits unwritten. I'm not sure the charecters are coming across as I want them to, so I'm tempted to go back and add extra bits, or change the order of others. It's frustrating, as I've never written anything where I felt I knew the charecters quite so well, so I really want to do them justice. It doesn't help that I'm beginning to get ideas for a new story and this is starting to occupy more and more thought processing.
