Were a bit lame in all honesty.

Given this was the 400th anaversary, it didn't seem like they went to the effort they could have done.

Yes, I got there a bit late (grr), but the earliest advertised starting time was 8.00 and they had started well before then. It seems several places were advertising an 8.30 start.

I'm not sure quite what it was, they just seemed to lack lustre. They were very pretty, but they weren't awesome. Maybe I had my hopes to high (I was really looking forward to it), but I feel it just wasn't all it could be.

Oh well. At least there were lots of people there. It was a bit like a larp. We were cold, damp and bitchy

Still, the walk along the river path up to the bus stop was amazing. There were fireworks going off at least once a second at times, lights and bangs either side of us. It was light being caught in a very pretty warzone. As Alex pointed out, you could have shot someone and no one would have notived until they found the body.

I now want to work fireworks into my story, but I'm not quite sure how.

*Hands sparklers to my charecters*

The suggestion for next year is to sit in front of sham castle with a blanket and some hot drinks and watch every display in the city.
